Purpose
The purpose of the workshop is to teach the Wu Dang Xuan Wu Fist form to the martial arts community. The form is named after the main God of the Wu Dang mountain, the "Xuan Wu Grand God." Since Xuan Wu is the transformation of Yin and Yang, the form is also referred to as the "Two-Pole Yin-Yang Fist." It is considered as an advanced form of the internal martial arts. In the form, one will learn many aspects of martial arts such as the combination of fast and slow movements, the combination of hard and soft power, and various Jins (i.e., refined forces) such as neutralization Jin, circular Jin, and explosively attacking Jin, etc.
Prerequisite
The requirements for the martial arts background of the workshop participants are as follows:
(1) internal martial art practitioners or instructors, or
(2) those who has more than three years external martial arts training and are interested in learning internal arts.
Instructor
Daoist priest Zhou Xuan Yun (pronounced Joh Sh-wen Yoon) 周玄云道長

Zhou Xuan Yun was raised on the most sacred mountain in China, Wu Dang Mountain, where he trained and later worked as an instructor of Taiji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan), Kung Fu and weaponry. Xuan Yun is also an ordained Daoist priest, trained in ritual arts, chanting, divination, and qigong. Dedicating his life to passing the Wu Dang arts, Xuan Yun divides his time between the U.S. and China, offering classes and workshops on traditional Wu Dang martial arts, Qi Gong, and Daoist philosophy.

What to Bring
Please bring comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and a separate pair of sneakers that have not been worn outside. The training area is covered with a tough carpet (berber style) which is not friendly to bare feet or socks.

Getting there by car:
Take I-94 to exit 37B (Dempster Rd, heading East). Take a right onto Niles Center Rd, then turn left onto Oakton St. The school is located on the right side of the street, about 1/2 a block down.
Getting there by air:
Fly into O'Hare Airport if possible; it's much closer than Midway Airport. If you're renting a car, see the directions for getting there by car. If you'd prefer not to, it's a short taxi ride. Cabs can be picked up outside all the baggage claim areas at designated taxi stands.

Getting there by public transit:
The #97 CTA Bus stops right at the school, and connects with the Skokie Yellow Line train and the Howard Red/Purple line train stop. The fare is $2.25/ride, with $.025 transfers within 2 hours. A fare transit card must be purchased for train rides; cash is accepted in addition for bus rides.
